What Is Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer, also called fat grafting, uses your natural body fat to restore lost volume to your face. This can enhance contours, fill out sunken or fallen cheeks, and create an overall more plump, youthful facial appearance.
Dr. Tripathi uses fat transfer to fill and define areas such as:
- Nasolabial folds
He also performs fat transfer as part of other facial procedures, such as a facelift.
How Is Fat Transfer Done?
During a fat transfer procedure, fat is harvested from an area of your body (typically your abdomen, buttocks, or thighs) via liposuction while you are under local anesthesia. The fat is then processed to ensure the best viability and carefully injected into the face to create natural-looking volume enhancements.
What Is Fat Transfer Recovery Like?
At the injection sites, the recovery process is similar to that of injectable dermal fillers, meaning you may experience swelling or bruising for a couple of days. Harvesting via liposuction requires very small incisions that typically heal in a couple of weeks. You may experience some bruising and swelling at the liposuction sites in the meantime.
What Are Facial Implants?
Facial implants are small implants, often made of silicone, that are placed in the chin or cheeks to enhance their shape and projection. These implants can create a more prominent chin, enhance the appearance of the jawline, and fill out flat cheeks with longer-lasting results than dermal fillers.
How Are Facial Implants Done?
Facial implant surgery takes about an hour and may be done while you are under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. For chin implants, Dr. Tripathi creates a small incision hidden in a natural crease under the chin. Cheek implants are placed through an incision hidden inside the mouth.
What Is Facial Implant Recovery Like?
Most people experience some bruising and swelling for a couple of days and return to work and other daily activities after about a week. Dr. Tripathi will provide detailed recovery instructions ahead of your procedure.
